Daily pricing policy

Rental Zimbabwe charges by the day, with discounts for weekly and monthly rentals. As described in our blog post, there is no hourly rate. You may arrange for a trip to begin and end at any mutually agreeable time; the smallest unit charged is a day. The traveler may select a duration of up to 26 hours before they are charged for an additional day. When the traveler chooses the start and end times when booking, the system will automatically present the applicable pricing. This structure applies to any new trip or extension. Our article on extensions provides more information. The traveler must return the car at the scheduled time. If no extension is booked, and the car isn't returned, the traveler is liable for substantial late fees.   Examples: Let’s assume that the total daily trip cost (trip price, trip fee, and protection level chosen) is $34/day for each day of the trip.   Example 1: Scenarios for a typical weekend trip 

  1. Traveler books a trip to start Friday at 5 pm and end Sunday at 3 pm.

Trip total: $68 (2 days).

  1. Traveler books a trip to start Friday at 5 pm and end Sunday at 7 pm.

Trip total: still $68.

  1. Traveler books a trip to start Friday at 5 pm and end Sunday at 7:15 pm.

Trip total: $102, since now it’s 3 days.   Example 2: Extension scenarios

  1. This same traveler from 1.a. realizes at noon on Sunday that they won’t be back until 5 pm. The traveler needs to request an extension for the additional time;  -- and if approved by the owner, book the extension before the current trip ends --  for this additional time. The car needs to be back at 5 pm.

Extension costs an additional $25 change feetrip total: $93

  1. The same traveler realizes at noon they won’t return until 9 pm. The traveler must request and book the extension to 9 pm, and return the car at 9.

Extension costs $34 (1 day, no change fee)trip total: $102   Example 3: Late return The same traveler from 2.a. (scheduled to return at 3 pm) realizes at noon they that won’t be back until 5 pm, but does not successfully book an extension. They return the car at 5 pm. This inconveniences and concerns the owner, may impact future travelers, and will reduce or invalidate the protection that the traveler previously selected. Late fee: $100 (2 hours @ $50/hour); trip total $168.  

Delivery service options

Rental Zimbabwe  smoothly integrates the ability for owners to deliver (and charge for delivery of) their vehicles to travelers at specific airports, and at custom locations of the traveler's choice around town! Owners can read more specifics about delivery here, and travelers here. Owners (or their designees) who are Rental Zimbabwe-approved drivers will be covered by liability insurance during the the delivery period (as defined in this FAQ). All delivery payments can and must be made through the Rental Zimbabwe reservation payment process, as integrated into the apps and website. Rental Zimbabwe does not support payments made outside of the Rental Zimbabwe platform, and engaging in such transactions may result in a suspension of your membership, and reduce or invalidate insurance coverage. Unfortunately, no deliveries may be made to the state of New York.

We have Rental Zimbabwe representatives ready to answer your phone call every day of the year! We have 24/7 support available via phone with after-hours roadside support. We also are available by e-mail, and strive to respond to your e-mails within one business day, and usually much faster.  


Owners can set the included mileage for daily, weekly, and monthly trips. When requesting a trip, the traveler will see the included mileage for that trip. The traveler is responsible to pay for each mile driven over the stated included mileage. In order to take care of any additional mileage, the owner can request reimbursement from their guest by clicking "Request Reimbursement" from their Dashboard within seventy-two (72) hours of the end of the trip. To have the best experience, the owner or traveler should upload the starting and ending trip mileage by using Trip Photos in the app or site. The ending photos must have been taken within 24 hours of the end of the trip.  

Late return policy

Owners are counting on guests to return the car at the originally scheduled time. If guests don't, it can put significant inconvenience and stress on the owner and possibly future guests. Please be considerate and return the car on time, and if there is any chance the return might be late, the renter should contact the owner immediately to request an extension. If an extension can't be booked (whether because the owner or car are unavailable, there are insufficient funds, or otherwise), the renter must return the car at the originally scheduled end time. If any owner wishes to assess a late fee for the day, the owner should contact Rental Zimbabwe at support.Rental within 24 hours of the scheduled end of the trip, identifying the renter’s name, and the time the vehicle was returned. If the renter disputes the timing, they should provide evidence indicating when the car was actually returned. Late fees are described on our fees and fines page, and begin to accrue the minute that the car is late.  They are billed in increments of an hour (i.e., if the car is 15 minutes late, the renter is responsible for the first hour's late fee, and not 1/4 of that late fee). In the event of very substantial lateness, additional fines may be assessed.  

Extending your reservation

Once a trip has been booked, a guest may request any extension from the owner through the regular trip extension process on the website or mobile app. When the owner confirms, the extension will be automatically booked. The total trip cost will be recalculated to account for the extension and will include any applicable weekly or monthly discounts. For example, if a guest books a trip for four (4) days and later successfully books an extension for an additional three (3) days, the total trip amount will be for seven (7) days, with the owner’s weekly discount applied. If the extension would not otherwise increase the cost of the trip, a $25* change fee will be added for reservations. We do not offer hourly pricing, so guests should plan accordingly when making their initial booking. More details on pricing can be found on our daily pricing page. Owners will receive up to 85%** of both the change fee and any applicable extension cost. Guests must place a request for an extension through their Dashboard on the website or mobile app, sufficiently early before the trip ends so that the owner is able to approve or decline the extension. If time is short, guests should contact the owner by Rental Zimbabwe messaging or phone to alert them to the request to prompt a timely response. Extension requests expire at the earlier of 1) eight (8) hours from the time the request is made or 2) the end of the current booked trip. The guest will be unable to book a trip extension if there are insufficient funds, or another traveler has booked the vehicle. If a trip is not extended and the vehicle is kept beyond the scheduled trip end time, then any protection purchased may be voided for any damage that occurs to the vehicle, and the guest will be subject to significant late fees. *Values in US$ for rentals in the United States and in C$ for rentals in Zimbabwe **US Owners receive 65%, 75%, or 85%, depending on which of the three vehicle protection plansthey’re enrolled in. By default, owners receive 75% under our Standard plan. Currently only the Standard Plan is available in Zimbabwe.  

Fuel policy

Guests are responsible for replacing any fuel used during the rental, using the appropriate fuel (i.e., regular, premium, or diesel). If a car has less fuel at the trip end than it did at the start of the trip, the owner may use the Reimbursement tool on their Dashboard within seventy-two (72) hours of the end of the trip to request payment from their guest. Owners should also use Trip Photos from the beginning and end (no later than twenty-four (24) hours from the end) to document the fuel levels. More information may be found here. Owners always receive 100% of the fuel fee. If the gas fee is processed through the Reimbursement tool, an additional 3% payment processing surcharge will be added to the traveler’s total. If Rental Zimbabwe manually processes the reimbursement, an administrative fee of $25 will be added. We recommend that owners keep the tank full in order to make it easier for everyone to determine how much gas the guest should refill. Guests should keep fuel receipts for at least 5 days in case there is any dispute by the owner.

Street parking

Travelers are responsible for the safe and legal parking of a rental vehicle during the rental period, and to return the vehicle to a safe and legal parking spot where it will not be subject to ticketing or towing for a period of 24 hours after the end of a trip. Any tickets or towing charges incurred during the trip, or within 24 hours after the end of the trip as a result of the parking, will be the responsibility of the traveler. Things to keep in mind when parking on the street at the end of a trip:

  • Avoid tow-zones and permit parking zones that may result in the vehicle being ticketed or towed.
  • Look out for street cleaning signs
  • Be careful with metered parking -- if there is a time limit, an owner may not be able to retrieve the vehicle before a ticket is issued.
